About this event

Staff recruitment can be an intensive and expensive process taking up time and resources, with lots of potential to get things wrong. This session will enable you to make an informed decision as to whether to employ someone or to hire a freelancer and the steps you will need to consider when taking on staff.

By the end of the session you will understand:

  • the difference between an employee, a worker and a self-employed contractor, and what kind of contract and working patterns you need to set up to establish their status
  • the pros and cons of employing someone directly versus hiring a self-employed contractor or using an agency employment law legislation that applies to workers as well as employees
  • the tax rules so that your company is not liable for any underpayment
  • Considerations when hiring your first employee

BEFORE YOU BOOK:

Before you book your ticket you will need to know the following:

  • Is your organisation a member of Community Works?
  • Is your organisation's annual income under or over £250,000?

This will affect the type and price of your ticket.

You will need to have a credit or debit card in front of you in order to complete payment. If you feel you are unable to pay by card, please contact us to discuss.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

If you cancel your booking, the following fees apply:

  • For cancellations received 30 days or more from the session date, a full refund will be issued.
  • For cancellations received within 30 days of the session date, or non-attendance on the day, a refund will NOT be issued.

If you are unable to attend owing to extenuating circumstances including illness, please contact us to discuss a possible refund.

FREE BURSARY PLACES

Bursary places are ONLY available to Community Works member organisations with income of less than £35,000 per year. We aim to offer a minimum of 2 bursary places per session.

If you choose "FREE bursary place" and we are subsequently unable to fulfil this option for any reason, we will contact you. This may happen because your organisation is not eligible for a bursary place, or we have already allocated all the bursary places.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

We have switched to payment by card for our charged-for courses and have updated our terms and conditions in relation to cancellations and refunds.
